Industrial-Grade Animal Fat Primary Rendering

Explore MoreIn early September, CCTV's program "The Big Circulation Around Us" reported that from January to July 2026 China exported 2.2301 million tonnes of industrial-grade mixed oil,up 54.79% year on year, while bio-jet fuel prices climbed to around USD 2,500 per tonne and export orders were booked into 2027.Behind the boom sits a simple fact: fat from the same slaughterhouse can end up in a hotpot base, in pet food,or in an aircraft fuel tank — and what decides its price is where rendering classification begins.

1. Classification starts with rendering
Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009, slaughterhouse waste rendering is sorted by risk into three categories:material from diseased or fallen animals may only be destroyed or used for renewable fuel after treatment, while Cat 3 by-products (from animals that passed ante-mortem inspection) may enter the feed chain. The EU tightened the rules further in October 2025: from 19 November 2027,third-country suppliers shipping Cat 3 used oils to the EU must be authorised by their national veterinary authority and registered in TRACES.China is moving in step: GB/T 46004-2025 for edible beef tallow and GB/T 46003-2025 for mutton fat took effect on 1 February 2026,and NY/T 3394-2025 requires poultry slaughterhouses and livestock slaughter plants to keep traceability ledgers and strictly separate edible, feed and industrial grades. In livestock rendering, compliant classification has become the entry ticket to the market.
2. One point of FFA, one hundred euros
Fastmarkets' assessment of 10 September 2026: European poultry fat at FFA ≤2% stood at EUR 1,200–1,220 per tonne, with 5% FFA material about EUR 100 per tonne cheaper;US Gulf 20% FFA tallow reached USD 1,665 per tonne, and European used cooking oil traded at EUR 1,280–1,290 per tonne.Every extra point of free fatty acids is a haircut on the invoice — rendering products are being repriced by grade.

3. Behind the spread: a complete rendering line
Maintaining consistent raw material quality to target grades relies on a closed production line: raw material is temporarily stored in receiving silos and raw material warehouses, impurities are removed using metal detectors, raw materials are coarsely crushed by a pre-crusher, and conveyed in a closed system by a vane pump before entering a batch cooker or continuous hydrolyzer for cooking; on the oil side, residue is removed by an oil-sludge separator/vibrating screen, residual oil is pressed out by a screw press, and then refined through an oil buffer tank and oil pump. The stability of each step ultimately contributes to the product's grade and price.
Competition among animal fat processing plants has become a competition of complete processing capabilities. Liande Oil Equipment (a brand under Hebei Chengzhu Machinery Group) specializes in animal fat rendering and refining equipment, providing systematic complete solutions and serving customers worldwide.
